AOL is laying off 108 workers connected to its office at 11955 Democracy Drive in Reston Town Center, Virginia. The layoffs were disclosed in notices sent on February 17, 2026 to Virginia workforce officials and Fairfax County leadership. They are permanent and will occur in two phases: about 94 employees on March 1, 2026, and another 14 employees on May 31, 2026. The cuts follow AOL’s sale from Yahoo to Italian tech company Bending Spoons, which was finalized on January 2, 2026. Bending Spoons said the decision followed an organizational review and framed the layoffs as part of reducing complexity to make AOL leaner and more focused. Affected employees were notified of their separation dates and offered a separation package, and the company warned that additional employment losses could occur in the future.
