Ultium Cells, a joint venture between General Motors and LG Energy Solution, is laying off 1,334 hourly employees at its Lordstown, Ohio battery cell manufacturing facility. The layoff includes 1,090 battery assembly operators, 142 quality operators, and 102 material operators. Of these, 850 are temporary layoffs with expected return-to-work in mid-2026, while 484 are indefinite. The reduction is attributed to slower-than-expected EV adoption rates. Facility layoffs began January 5, 2026.
